WR250F Exhaust Baffle

The stock exhaust on the US spec WRF comes with a baffle in the tip of the silencer (Figure 1). This restricts the exhaust to exit through a pencil sized opening. This robs a lot of power from the bike. To remove the baffle, take out the 10 mm bolt holding it in place and slide it out (Figures 2 and 3). Removing it provides a 48mm-sized opening (Figure 4). The bike runs much better without the baffle, but is also much louder. For aftermarket inserts that are available to replace the stock baffle see "Not Free" Upgrades: Exhaust. Most of the non-US WRF’s come with the baffle welded in place in which case an aftermarket or YZF stock exhaust is the only solution.

 Update for 2005 Model

The endcap has been changed on the 2005 model (Figure 1) to the FIM legal "non-stinger" type. Removing the baffle is slightly more complicated than on previous models.

  1. Remove end-cap
  2. Drill out the rivets that hold the baffle in place
  3. Remove baffle
  4. Reassemble end-cap
